Duality

There is an incorrect conception, among many, about women in which innocence and tenderness cannot coexist with sensuality and empowerment. The simultaneous presence of these characteristics in the same sentence, even more so in a single person, seems almost like a cognitive dissonance in the minds of many people.

But I am a multidimensional woman; artist, but also art, poet and poetry, astute as well as naive. Fragile like the page of a book but strong like its cover and deep like the content. Not only a woman, but also a girl, the one I was and will never stop being.

I joyfully rejoice in contradictions. It would be cruel to confine myself to a single identity when there are so many generations that I have been around desperately screaming to manifest themselves in some way. Sometimes in a braid, other times with knots in the hair. Others dress in primary colors and then in mourning, both ways of honoring my origin. When I look in the mirror and see the thousands of layers in the reflection, like a flower and its petals without which it would cease to be a flower and just be a stem, in that moment I feel authentic. So I decided to embrace my sexuality and my delicacy because, who says lingerie can’t be for sitting and listening to vinyl and reading a book while enjoying your own company.
