CRYSTALLINE

Under the waterfall I feel protected although I know very well that I am exposed because the water is crystalline and selfish, it flows without looking back and yet it covers me like a blanket. It is freezing cold but warm as I feel its drops hitting against my skin and then sliding down every curve of my body with the delicacy that fingers can never reach. Though gentle, they are cruel and activate every nerve in my body making me shiver with a pain that borders on pleasure reminding me that I am alive. As she whispers in my ear that I exist, she assures me that she can submerge me in an eternal dream and she wishes to do so, she makes sure that I do not forget that my permanence in this universe is fragile and depends on her. Although its liquid nature makes it less permanent, nothing can pass through it.

Perhaps I am relieved to find that the water that falls on me is not salty like that which comes down from my eyes that are like the sea at least twice a week sometimes for no apparent reason and is accompanied by a lump in my throat impossible to swallow. No, this water revitalizes me instead of leaving me with chapped lips and dry skin.

I hide in the hope that by submerging myself completely my thoughts will freeze for an instant and stop tormenting me with their incessant movement but instead they decide to mimic what they touch, they are stubborn like the body they inhabit, and like water they run, escape and slip from my hands, crashing against every surface they find in their path. I am certain that if I do not drown in this icy water I will be consumed by my own ideas that are often wilder than the tide but for now none of this matters.
